Yet another great feast in Inland Dalmatia you won’t want to miss!
This weekend, do not miss your chance to visit Vrlika as they celebrate the day of their city and Our Lady of Rosary from September 29 – October 1, 2017. What better way to ring in the first days of autumn?
Rožarica, or Our Lady of Rosary, is a celebration that is especially marked in the area of the Vrlika town, which, because of its rich program, is not exclusively of a religious character. It is time to gather the people of Vrlika who are traditionally very close and proud of their town to come together to commemorate this feast with the locals and their guests.
The weekend will include content for all tastes, especially because the Day of Vrlika will be celebrated simultaneously with Our Lady of Rosary.
The program commences on Friday by laying the wreaths at the Central Cross and then continues at the City Council’s session which will award public accolades over the past year.
Sports enthusiasts will also have a handful of activities to enjoy on Friday and Saturday. On Friday at 17:00, the Memorial Ivo Lelas 2017 tournament will be held through competitions of football, bocce ball, stone throwing, tennis and volleyball.
TZ Vrlika
Saturday, September 30th begins with the 17th Vrlika race and championship in sprinting for the “Stipe Erceg” memorial. The program continues with an evening entertainment program and a concert by Klapa ”Contra” in the church of Our Lady of Rosary. The evening will end with fireworks.
The 7th Trademark and Handicraft Fair will be held on Sunday, October 1st. At 10:30, the program begins with a Holy Mass. On this occasion, there will be the blessing of the restoration of the 18th century Virgin of the Rosary, undermined during the Homeland War and the four-year exile of the people of Vrlika (1991-1995). On this occasion, they renewed the tradition of the ceremonial procession for Our Lady’s image. After mass, KUD Milan Begović will perform with traditional dances and poems.
For a small town in Inland Dalmatia, Vrlika is unusually rich in traditional and cultural heritage that is carefully preserved – whether it be autochthonous desserts such as the famous uštipak, or truly unique immaterial artifacts such as emblematic dances or the comic opera “Ero s onoga svijeta”.
