The oldest Arboretum in the world and the oldest Renaissance park in Crotia is 18 km away from the Old Town and it can be reached by local bus or taxi. The local noble family Gozze (Gučetić) erected the arboretum in order to house numerous seeds and plants requested from ship captains to bring back home from their travels. Visitors can spot Oriental planes, bougainvillea, different species of cacti, magnolia and date-plams. It includes a Renaissance park surrounding the 15th-century summer villa and a 19th century park at drvarica. The noble families of Dubrovnik lived in the Old Town where all the main institutions were located, but spent their summer in the Renaissance villas outside the city walls. Highlights: 70 meter long aqueduct that is still in use, stunning view of the Adriatic Sea and the surrounding islands from the belvedere pavillion, a Baroque Fountain from 1736 representing Neptune, god of fresh water and the sea in Roman mythology with accompanying statues of the nymphs.
