Adventure tourism has been steadily on the rise in Dalmatia over the last 15 years. One of the regional pioneers was a company called Hvar Adventure, a group of young enthusiasts who wanted to show that there was more to their island than the beach and nightclubs. Sailing, sea kayaking, hiking, cycling and rock climbing were the five key offers in the young company’s portfolio.
That was back in 2005, and today, adventure tourism – and Dalmatia’s reputation as an adventure tourism destination – is on the rise, as more agencies offer adventure tourism options, and several of those agencies have become more creative with their itineraries. The result is an excellent choice for tourists who want to explore the region in a more adventurous way.
Korcula is no exception, and one of the old Hvar Adventure crew has now married and settled on Korcula, bringing with him a wealth of experience and local knowledge. Korcula Outdoor offers some outstanding adrenaline experiences, many of which are specially catered to the level of experience of the client – from absolute beginner to professional.
Sea kayaking has exploded in popularity in recent years all over the Adriatic. With calm waters, hidden coves and little islands to explore and discover, sea kayaking is a totally different tourism feeling and one which many first-timers are taking to as part of their Dalmatian holiday. With beginners wlecome and kayakers encouraged from the age of eight, a half day’s kayaking is a great fun family experience.
Korcula Outdoor has two main kayaking tours, the ‘Lago di Korcula’ half-day kayaking tour, which consists of a 4-5 hour gentle paddle around the islands in the Korcula Channel, accompanied by an expert guide who will also be filling you in on the history and traditions of life here.
