Advent in Split Finally Comes to a Close Tonight with Afterfire!

Daniela Rogulj

The longest-ever Advent in Split finally comes to a close this evening.

This January Tuesday in Split is a rather strange one as we kiss goodbye two significant events in the city’s offseason – Advent in Split and the European Handball Championship. This year’s Split Advent was the longest in the city’s history, after a decision by the City and Tourist Board to keep the festive feeling running through the end of this year’s highly-anticipated handball competition. And good thing they did, as Swedish and Iceland handball fans made the most of the fair during their Split visit.

This year’s Advent saw the traditional locations of the Riva and Pjaca, new locations at Dardin, Galerija, and the Tourist Palace, a Gastro Advent, a Gastro Get for the foodies, and plenty of concerts, mulled wine (and gin), and sausages for all citizens of the city to enjoy. From legendary music artists Goran Karan to Crvena Jabuka, classical music at the first ever Children’s Advent, karaoke and discos at Pjaca, and choirs, klapas, and performances by KUD Jedinstvo, to the stellar New Year’s Eve party with Mjseni Odbor, Jole, and Gustafi – complete with a 15-minute fireworks show – who didn’t get into the holiday spirit this year?

Because it’s safe to say that everyone enjoyed this holiday season in Split, we’re here to announce the final event of Split Advent this evening.

For the last day of the Christmas fair and final day of the European Handball Championship’s Fan Zone on the Riva, at 17:00, the atmosphere will be heated by DJ Pajo, and the two handball games of the night will be shown on a big screen at the central stage on the Riva. After the games, the band ‘Afterfire’ will take the stage for the final concert to close the Advent event.

We’re sure you don’t want to wait until December to catch the festive season again, so why not bid this one farewell with a bang?

Serbia and Iceland meet at 18:15 for the first handball game tonight, while Croatia and Sweden meet at 20:30 for the final match of the European Handball Championship in Split.
