Changing of Diocletian’s Guards Returns to Peristyle on Monday

Diocletian’s guards return to Peristyle!

The Tourist Board of Split, in cooperation with the Croatian National Theatre in Split, will once again welcome the project “Changing of the Guard,” which has become a real tourist attraction in the city. The new season of the project will begin on Monday, May 15th at noon, reports HRTurizam on May 13, 2017.

While it has already been a decade since Diocletian’s guards were first presented on Peristyle, they have become a recognizable tourism product in the city – and taking a photo with the Roman soldiers is an indispensable souvenir of every tourist who visits Split. 

The changing of the guard takes place every day at noon. During the change, Emperor Diocletian and six of his soldiers will welcome the people to Split and hold a commemorative speech, calling the guests at his palace.

This traditional ceremony will run from May 15th to September 27th (World Tourism Day).
