On Friday, June 23rd at 20:00, the Croatian Maritime Museum in Split will host Jurica Gašpar for his book presentation of Legends of the Light.
Three years and 48 lighthouses later, the book Legends of the Light by Jurica Gašpar takes readers on a journey through the stories of Croatian lighthouses and the characters behind them.
The book is the result of the enthusiastic members from Association Lux Mediterraneum who planned an exhaustive tour of the 48 lighthouses along the eastern Adriatic coast, interviews with former and present-day lighthouse keepers, their families, lighthouse professionals, and seafarers, exploring the rich maritime history while researching the available archival matter.
The book walks readers through the organizational and architectural contribution of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, which during the 19th century designed and built an impressive maritime infrastructure of 48 lighthouses. The experiences and stories of current and former lighthouse keepers and their families are shared, and the impressions of lighthouse functions through the descriptions of experts are expressed. The book also contains significant photo documentation of the lighthouses in all weather conditions with concise historical and documentary material from the 19th century onwards.
Association Lux Mediterraneum hopes to turn the book into a 45-minute documentary film which will evoke the drama of navigation and life at these lighthouses.
