Popular Rooftop Restaurant Paradigma Set to Close

Daniela Rogulj

Split has lost a quality restaurant, as Paradigma has announced its closing. Its decision to close was shared on Facebook on New Year’s Eve.

The Paradigma statement reads:

“Dear guests, friends, acquaintances, partners and interested audiences comfortably reclining in their armchairs who are fans of ours on social media.

Behind us are three ‘interesting’ years in which with Paradigma we wanted to change the paradigm of Split hospitality. We believed, and still believe, that the scale must be raised if we are to make progress in anything, especially now, in hospitality and tourism, where we remain the last straw that the whole economy keeps at their fingertips. It is the taxes that have brought us to where we are, and whose announced increases have immediately deflated all of our efforts, the usurious interest rates, the frequent inspections and related penalties, administration and bureaucracy, and the overall investment and supporting social climate, which fully breaths in accordance with the old saying that as the neighboring cow dies, another time.

Paradigma is not a restaurant, Paradigma is a way of thinking. Paradigma is not an ATM, Paradigma requires continuous investment – human, financial and spiritual. At Paradigma we spent in every sense of the word. From Paradigma has spawned many new sincere friends, a lot of new acquaintances, many of whom paved the way for further progress and a better career, and helped position ourselves in this small pond of Croatian gastronomy, which is not full of crocodiles as some say, but only tadpoles and frogs. As we ourselves have not hatched from tadpoles to frogs, we decided to put Paradigma into hibernation for three years. Split is developing, and the number of high-category hotels in the offer is a growing, though we are still waiting for the beginning of the implementation of at least some of these numerous projects in the offer. We hope that the tax policy will be more understanding in the coming years for our activities and to improve the overall climate. The said change is a prerequisite for the development of quality hospitality in Split and Croatia.

Meanwhile, Paradigma will be filled by Paradox. We remain in a simpler concept, nurturing and developing the Dalmatian wine story, and we will keep a place for a new Paradigma in 2020!

Cheers and a happy and successful new year.

Zoran, Marko, Rocco, Mladen & Ante”

We wish Paradigma the best of luck, and look forward to 2020!
