After 91 years, Tijardović’s operetta remains a hit with the Split audience.
The premiere performance of Ivo Tijardović’s operetta “Queen of the Ball” premiered at Poljud Stadium last night. The operetta has not been performed in Split in 91 years. You can read more about the operetta here.
Here’s a look at the reactions after the show, as reported by Dalmatinski Portal on July 1, 2017.
The leading actor of the operetta, Damir Mihanović Čubi, said:
“I’m happy and proud of it, it all went as expected and the audience rewarded us with applause. Judging by that, we have done a great job, but for the objective impressions, you will need to ask the audience, as they are the true critics and why we are doing this. If Boris Dvornik was alive, he would play my role. I’m happy if the audience liked my performance.”
The director of the show, Jelena Bosančić, said:
“I’m terrified, and emotions are running – people have been approaching me and everyone has congratulated me. Congratulations to the team and all of the performers, this was a tremendous effort that ultimately paid off. It was a huge difference between the theater and the stadium, and therefore a big challenge to set the tone and spatial performance of the show. However, we have succeeded in something nobody has done so far.”
Intendant of HNK Split Goran Golovko said:
“This imagination, what the youth has shown, they can only do that. Maestro Hari was phenomenal, and director and choreographer Jelena Bosančić was excellent. I hope this show will not be forgotten again, as this was a great end of the season. I believe the show will continue, and I will think about putting it on a repertoire in the theater.”
“It was beautiful, and the youth proved that Split has the spirit as does Hajduk. This is a top-notch production, and the young people have shown that you can feel alive whenever you want. This is proof that there is creativity in our city, and this was the top event this evening. I do not know how this went 90 years without being performed. Jelena did a fantastic job. Everyone loves Hajduk because it is not just football. For the first time in the stadium, I experienced that there were more ladies than men, and this is proof that this was a beautiful evening,” said Split mayor Andro Krstulović Opara.
Hajduk’s president, Ivan Kos, had the last word.
“Hajduk wants to participate not only in the development of football and sports but also wants to join the academic community actively. Tonight we showed why Hajduk is a national club and we are proud that we are the only club that has an operetta. There is a possibility that after these three performances we will continue the production of ‘Queen of the Ball.’”
Due to the great response after the premiere, everyone rushed on Saturday morning to secure a ticket for the remaining two performances that are scheduled for tonight and tomorrow at 9 pm.
Some tickets for both performances are still on sale and can be purchased at Marmont Street near the intersection with K. Tomislava where students will have their own booth from 11 am to 4 pm.
