Spice Up Your Life: Chili Marathon Returns to Split!

Daniela Rogulj

This one is for those of you who enjoy hot peppers with a side of party.

The third Split Chili Marathon will be held this year at Split’s favorite alternative club Kocka on Saturday, October 14, 2017.

Anyone who thinks they can eat the hottest peppers without flinching is encouraged to take on the challenge to hopefully win the title of spice king or queen of Split.

Just like last year, the competition will be broken into “amateur” and “professional” pepper-eating groups. Both groups will begin with peppers that are considered to be milder, increasingly approaching sight-blinding super-hot peppers that’ll tweak your taste buds, perhaps forever. But don’t worry, you’ll be fine.

The amateur group will begin with Serrano sweet-peppers, and the professional group will instantly strike where it hurts. From both groups, only one winner will be proclaimed.

We know this wasn’t filmed in Split, but here’s a bit of what you can expect.

Here is a bit about the rules of the competition:

Eat peppers until you can no longer stand it, or get sick.

If you never end up feeling sick and are able to stand the heat (and the sweat) you will most likely be the winner of the competition.

Milk will be there to help you at any moment of weakness, but consuming it leads to disqualification.

During the competition it is forbidden to eat ice cream, to smoke, to order a masseuse and to drink alcohol.

Peppers must be eaten WHOLE. Separation of the seeds is not allowed.

You throw up or spit the pepper out? Uff, you’re disqualified.

The evening program will be complete with stand-up duo consisting of Ante Travizi and Tomislav Primorac who will lead the competition, guaranteeing the best time of all times, and a memory full of agony, suffering, self-delusion and laughter.

And Kocka, quite frankly, is no fun without a concert. Therefore, the program also includes a performance by the band Barbara Munjas Calligraphy

The event is powered by Juta Spiza and Klub Kocka.
