The sailboat with a built-in solar-powered system: Stella Maris offers a unique sailing experience around the Dalmatian bays without the noise of a motor.
The Stella Maris is a wooden, 40-meter motor yacht that boasts eight cabins to accommodate 16 people and 7 crew members. What really makes this boat unique, however, is that vessel is powered by a 10kWp solar-powered system to fuel all consumers onboard, reports Dalmatinski Portal on April 29, 2017.
Seeing, namely, the need for greater energy autonomy in navigation while giving guests an opportunity to enjoy the Dalmatian bays without the noise of an ignition generator, owner and captain Ante Lozić has perfectly integrated the potential of renewable energy sources into the vessel.
By using the wind to sail and the sun to produce electricity, Lozić has created an energy-independent vessel which is a considerable money saver and is also environmentally friendly.
The supply of equipment, installation, and operations were conducted by the Split company Solar Project, which has been engaged in photovoltaic systems and ship electronics for many years.
“The solar panels have over four Victron Energy – MPPT controllers connected to the battery station, and the output power is provided by three Victron MultiPlus inverters with a total power of 15kW. These inverters have an integrated battery charger of 70A and an automatic transfer switch for switching operation modes. Overnight autonomy is provided by the OPzV battery station, which can be supplemented by shore connection or by navigation using the generator,” explained Boris Tudor, director of the Solar Project, and an engineer of marine electronics.
This wooden gulet was even used for the filming of klapa Rišpet’s music video with Ivan Pažanin and Andrea Koprčina. See it below!
