ROBA (Croatian for “clothes”) is a Zagreb-based label which was named one of three “need to know Croatian fashion designers” by Forbes, Italian Vanity Fair magazine cited ROBA as one of top 10 emerging and not to be missed international designers, and the British fashion industry paid respect by presenting ROBA in a prestigious setting of TOP SHOP’s store at London’s Oxford Circus.

The label was founded by Branka Šćepanovic and Maja Šimunović (who left the brand in August, 2010) in Zagreb in 2007. The designers wanted to make clothes that would fit them, and then they found out that other people liked it, too.

Fashion is an art form, so the designers at ROBA try to incorporate performance arts into each line, and each line has a story behind it. Soft materials are used to put focus on tailoring.

The collections vary, and they include bold items, mostly asymmetrical and monochrome, with high-quality statement pieces that will make you stand out.

Descriptions such as:

“revolutionary products, such as: Darker than white, brighter than very dark Jacket*, a long Dress* for short legs, Clothes that make the man, and a Dress* that makes a woman or feminine man, Darker than white, brighter than very dark Jacket*, I-think-I-saw-God,-and-than-I-bought-the-same-Piece-of-Clothing*-he-was-wearing kind of Jacket” (For Real Collection)

or

“ perfect outfits for those all-night stands and repetitious appearances, combining tragic, yet realistic prints with purest cotton and most delicate silk, whilst making sure they still looked presentable after the survival of the fittest nights” (Deluxe Collection)

prove that Branka seems to be having a lot of fun creating these unique pieces, and I think that that’s precisely what fashion should be about – pouring your creative juices into making something you and other people like while having loads of fun.
