A festival honouring one of the biggest Croatian authors of all time will take place July 1 – 7

Zagreb is hosting the 6th annual Miroslav Krleža Festival in the garden of the house the famous author and his wife Bela used to live in, in a street that is now named after him, Krležin Gvozd 23. Find out more about Krleža Memorial Centre here.

Miroslav Krleža (1893 – 1981) was one of the most famous and most prolific 20th ct Croatian authors, and he is considered by many one of the biggest Croatian authors of all time. His enormous body of work includes novels, dramas, poetry, essays, and novellas.

The festival will take place July 1 – 7 and it will be dedicated to travelling through time and space dotted with Aretej and other famous Krleža’s characters, the common denominator of which will be “Eternal Statelessness: Love and Politics” (Vječni apatridi: ljubav i politika). The 50-kuna tickets can be bought at www.ulaznice.hr.

Visitors will be able to watch new plays, such as U agoniji, Aretej, and Bobočka, Balade Petrice Kerempuha musical, as well as a rerun of Šest lica Ane Borongay.

For the first time in the festival’s history, best actors will get awards: the best male actor will get Krleža’s walking stick, while the best female actor will get Bela’s necklace,  both designed by Diana Sokolić.

There will also be book discussions, exhibitions and other interesting events, and the festival will end on July 7 at 7 a.m. with a traditional event called “Breakfast at Krleža’s”. On that day, Krleža House will be open for visitors 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. with free guided tours on the hour.
