The Croatian Red Cross and the Town Association Hvar, in cooperation with Europa Donna – the European Coalition for Breast Cancer, have organized the action “Let’s Give a Pink Life” (Darujmo ružičasti život) which will be held on the island of Hvar on Friday, September 30, 2016.
Europa Donna is an independent and non-profit organization whose members are groups and affiliates from 47 countries from Europe and the World. Europa Donna Croatia (EDH) is part of that coalition and thus the umbrella organization in Croatia, whose objectives include the promotion of education, early cancer diagnosis, optimal treatment, medical and psychosocial rehabilitation, palliative care and an increase in funding for research into the disease.
EDH was founded in 1994 with the aim of long-term programs and projects related to education about breast cancer prevention and the establishment of cooperation with various associations, sections and institutions in Croatia. Europa Donna Croatia since its foundation has each year organized three major public charity events: “Narcissus”, “National Breast Cancer Awareness Month” (pink ribbon) and “Day of the Healthy Breast”, all with the purpose of raising women’s awareness of breast cancer and to sensitize the public.
The campaign “Let’s Give a Pink Life” is a Europa Donna Croatian project which was launched in 2013 for the purchase of an apparatus for intraoperative radiation (IORT). Such an apparatus has greatly reduced emissions of radiation (up to 20-30 times) in women patients, and facilitates the course of treatment and recovery itself. Having access to this apparatus is a positive shift in the quality of treatment and outstanding contribution to the whole community.
