Independent Cinema Day will be celebrated on Hvar this Wednesday, November 8, 2017.
The Cinema Network, in cooperation with Croatian Audiovisual Center (HAVC), organizes ‘Independent Film Day’ this year in 35 cinemas across Croatia. And did we mention it’s their 3rd birthday?
As part of the Independent Cinema Day celebration, Kino Mediteran Hvar will host a FREE screening of the biographical film The Odyssey. The film, which follows the life of French underwater explorer, visionary, and innovator Jacques Cousteau, features parts filmed on the islands of Hvar, Vis and Biševo.
A summary of the film:
“The year is 1948, and Jacques Cousteau, his wife and his two sons live in ‘paradise’, in a beautiful house overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. Meanwhile, Cousteau dreams of adventure – and after inventing scuba diving equipment that enables one to breathe underwater, he discovers a new world. Cousteau wishes to explore the world immediately, and because of that, he is ready to sacrifice everything.”

The Odyssey is directed by Jérôme Salle and written by Salle and Laurent Turner. The film is based on the non-fiction book Capitaine de La Calypso by Albert Falco and Yves Paccalet.
The Odyssey stars Lambert Wilson, Pierre Niney, and Audrey Tautou and apart from Croatia, was filmed in South Africa, Antarctic, and the Bahamas.
PS: While the flyer says November 7th, Hvar will be celebrating the event on the 8th!
