12th DOKUart Documentary Film Festival kicks off today with the Croatian premiere of the film Miss Kiet’s Children.
12th DOKUart International Documentary Film Festival takes place from September 30 to October 6 in Bjelovar, reports HAVC on September 26, 2017. The main festival programme will screen seven domestic and foreign films, selected by Rade Šešić.
The festival brings three Croatian premieres, one of which will open the festival – a Dutch film Miss Kiet’s Children, made by prominent directorial couple Peter Lataster and Petra Czisch Lataster, who will also be the guests of the festival. The film To Be a Teacher by young German director Jakob Schmidt and Korida by Siniša Vidović will also be shown in Croatia for the first time.
The festival will be accompanied by a rich programme which includes special screenings in the small, intimate cinema DOKUbus, as well as screenings in alternative venues, that will be held before, during and after the festival. DOKUart traditionally organises screenings in one of the nearby villages; this year in the festival will also be held at the Municipality of Veliki Grđevac. After the festival ends, part of the festival programme will be shown at the Tuškanac Cinema in Zagreb.
An integral part of the festival is ‘Mali DOKUart’, which for the past 10 years has been rewarding documentary films made by elementary school students, as well as DOKUradionica workshop for elementary school students led by the prominent lecturers Damir Čučić and Boris Poljak, lectures of the distinguished documentary filmmakers, screenings for Bjelovar students and high school students etc.
The festival is held at the cinema hall of the Cultural and Multimedia Center in Bjelovar. DOKUart is held under the patronage of the City of Bjelovar and with the support of the Croatian Audiovisual Center (HAVC) and the Croatian Film Association (HFS).
