Advent in Split was presented at a press conference on Monday at the Split City Administration building. The event, titled “Winter Watercolors – Advent and Christmas Celebration in Split” was presented by the mayor of Split, Andro Krstulović Opara, the director of the Tourist Board of Split, Alijana Vukšić, and the director of Spalatum DMC, Ante Šunjić.
Advent in Split will now be called “Winter Watercolors – Advent and Christmas Celebration in Split”
First and foremost, one of the most successful winter events in Croatia – Advent in Split, will have a new look this year. From December 1, 2018, to January 7, 2019, Split will be painted with tradition and entertainment under the new name “Winter Watercolors – Advent and Christmas Celebration in Split”, reports Dalmacija Danas on October 29, 2018.
This event is the result of the joint management and coordination of all institutions, primarily the City of Split, the Split Tourist Board and Spalatum DMC.
Advent in Split will have a day program, children’s programs, klapa performances, classical quintets, entertainment groups, choirs, and concerts
The main goal of this year’s event is to restore the spirit of Christmas to all the city squares and continue the tradition of family and friendship. The holidays are a time for family communion, which was the main thought of this year’s program. On the Riva this year, visitors can expect a vibrant day program, children’s programs, klapa performances, classical quintets, entertainment groups, and choirs, as just part of the program organized by the Split Tourist Board. Spalatum DMC, on the other hand, will organize over 30 evening music programs on the Riva.
Giuliano will open Advent in Split this year
Giuliano, Hari Rončević, klapa Šufit, Dalmatino, Four Tenors, klapa Iskon, Slavonija Band, and Neno Belan & Fiumensi, are part of the program on the Riva so far – and one of the most popular Croatian singers will entertain the crowd for the event’s opening – Giuliano.
Strossmayer Park or ‘Đardin’ will become a real Christmas fairytale for children and families this year. This Christmas corner will be illuminated in a variety of colors, Christmas decorations and commemorative children’s 3D characters, packed with music and drama programs, dance performances and other talents. Every day, themed programs will be held which will bring the joy of Christmas to Đardin, such as performances by church choirs, young musicians in cooperation with the Youth Music of Split, and the students of the Music Academy of the University of Split. Saturday in Đardin is reserved for children’s programs and Sunday for orchestra concerts and choirs of classical and spiritual music.
In order to create a Christmas atmosphere at as many city squares as possible this year, Gaje Bulata Square will become the ‘Square of Street Artists’ in December, where street artists will decorate the square with the sounds of Christmas each day. Visitors will have the opportunity to buy souvenirs and ornaments as well.
During the four Advent weekends, every Saturday night at 6 pm, candles will be lit on the Advent wreath (around the fountain in front of Sv. Frane Church).
The novelty of this year’s program is the Christmas Story at Žrnovnica (21.12.-23.12.2018), which will include live nativity scenes where children will be able to visit live animals, and a enjoy a Christmas fair, children’s programs, concerts and ‘Night Aurore’.
Gastroadvent by Olja Martinić and GastroGet advent will also return this year to give Split foodies the taste of a Croatian Christmas.
The entire program of Advent this year will even include museums and galleries, students, artists, the Center Juraj Bonači and Slava Raškaj, the Association of Craftsmen, HŽPP and many others.
Advent in Split boasts a new photo contest
The new program also boasts an exhibition in cooperation with the Fotoklub Split. TheSplit Tourist Board and Fotoklub Split have organized a photo contest called ‘Advent in Split’. The content is open to all photographers, amateurs and professionals. The best photos will be rewarded with prizes, and an exhibition of the best works will be displayed in the photo gallery of Fotoklub Split.
Advent in Split will have 28 Christmas cottages
This year’s event will have 28 Christmas cottages in the following locations: Riva (8 shops and 12 catering cottages); Đardin (2 shops, 2 catering cottages); Trg Gaje Bulata (4 shops); and Prokurative (children’s toys and the train). Kralja Tomislava Street will be divided into two zones (in front of the Art Gallery and in front of the old post office), which will also be available for concession as part of the Public Call to be announced on Tuesday.
