Captain and Harbour Master Branko Rameša has been nominated for the International Maritime Rescue Federation (IMRF) Lifetime Achievement Award.
Head of the harbourmaster’s branch office in Tisno, Murter, Branko Rameša is the first Croat to be nominated for the prestigious, Vladimir Maksimov Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Maritime SAR Sector, reports Rudinapress on October 28, 2017.
“The nomination for the prize was a complete surprise. I really wasn’t expecting to reach the finals, especially since nobody from this part of the region has even been nominated. I am convinced that there were people before me who might have done more, deserved to win the prize and in general contributed more to the reputation of the Republic of Croatia, but no one thought to nominate them,” captain Branko Rameš told Rudinapress.
In his forty years of work, captain Branko Rameša was involved in over 200 search and rescue operations at sea. His first SAR action was in 1980, when he went to search the missing diver with the official six-metre-long wooden boat. Captain Rameša welcomed the arrival of today’s ship “Lavsa” – the first search and rescue vessel of this area which witnessed many SAR missions.
“There were many difficult and ugly but also very nice moments, and the hardest part about retiring will probably be the fact that I will have to part with this ship with which I’ve gone through hell and high water,” says Rameša about the Lavsa vessel. Rameša will retire in February 2018.
