Want to try the true taste of Zagreb? Now you can, thanks to the Cooking Croatia culinary experience!
Have you come to Zagreb from another city or from abroad with the desire to eat something authentic, something traditional from Zagreb, and not just fast food or more international dishes that you can find anywhere else in the world?
Ms Željka Stošić from Papica club (located near Britanski trg) came up with an original project that will enable you to do just that! Thanks to her experience in tourism and knowledge of tourist destination branding, a truly unique project with a national platform was created. This project in the making is called Cooking Zagreb and the plan is to start it in other cities as well.
With the scents of “old” Zagreb cuisine and forgotten recipes from our grandmothers’ cookbooks, this interesting gastronomic project was presented to the public and the media in a setting of an authentic middle-class Zagreb apartment, filled with vintage furniture and fine china.
The project will enable tourists and locals alike to experience Zagreb’s traditions first hand, as well as taste and smell the aromas of a bygone era of Zagreb in an authentic ambience of an early-20th-century Zagreb apartment.
“Faširanci” (minced meat patties), leek stew with sausages, “jabuke u šlafroku” (deep-fried apples), “ajgemahtec” (stew), duck with mlinci, beef soup, strudel, and homemade chicken liver pate, are just some of the things you will be able to taste.
The day starts with buying fresh local ingredients from the kumice at Dolac, where Ms Željka will assist the participants in buying ingredients. After that, they will stop for a cup of coffee and discuss what they will be making, before continuing to Britanac Antiques Fair.
Then, they will become main chefs at Vladimira Nazora 2, supervised by Ms Željka, after which they will get a diploma saying that they passed the Cooking Croatia Course by Papica.
Mr Zlatko Gall, a journalist from Split and a leading gastronomic expert, commentator and friend of Zagreb cuisine presented the project, while painter and musician Ivica Propadalo, water polo player Dubravko Šimenc, TV host Daniela Trbović, and fashion designer Boris Banović prepared the traditional meals from Zagreb.
The concept was created through discussions with small farmers and family farm owners.
