3LHD’s “Aquatika” freshwater aquarium in Karlovac won two A + Awards by one of the world’s leading architecture portals.
The freshwater aquarium and river museum in Karlovac, designed by Zagreb architecture studio 3LHD, has won two A + Awards from the world’s leading portal dedicated to architecture – Architizer, reports Buro 247 on April 12, 2017.
The “Aquatika” design project won first place in the category of “Architecture + Landscape” for innovative projects that create a natural environment. The project was granted both the A + Award from the jury and the A + Popular Choice Award which is chosen by the readers of the portal.
For the fifth consecutive year, the A + Awards have chosen the best projects and products in architecture and product design while promoting their positive impact on daily life. Thanks to the popularity of the portal and the A + Awards program, the winning projects are presented to an audience of over 400 million users and readers of Architizer.
A jury selected the five finalists for each category of the A + Awards. Among the finalists, the jury then selected the winners. The A + Popular Choice Award was chosen by the vote of an online community.
Located by the Korana river, the design concept of the freshwater aquarium was inspired by the dikes and trenches of the city’s historic center, the “Karlovac star”. The aquarium is actually covered with earthen embankments and fixed into the natural environment. You can read more about the design concept here.
Bravo to 3LHD for even more world recognition!
