Dubrovnik Mayor Andro Vlahušić received the new Robin Hood film’s director Otto Bathurst and executive producer E. Bennett Walsh, welcoming them into Dubrovnik. Most all of the film’s details will be known by the end of October.
Dalmacija News reports that Otto Bathurst, director of the upcoming film “Robin Hood: Origins”, said Thursday at a meeting with the Mayor of Dubrovnik, Andro Vlahušić, that Dubrovnik, in competition with dozens of locations, imposed as ideal for filming the new Robin Hood. Mayor Vlahušić received the film’s director Otto Bathurst and executive producer E. Bennett Walsh and welcomed them into Dubrovnik.
“Dubrovnik is a location of what we could not even imagine. In the movie, with historical themes, the choice of the location is just crucial. We looked at dozens of locations around the world, however, Dubrovnik very quickly established itself as the only choice,” said Bathurst, who reiterated that Dubrovnik will be the ”heart of the film”.
Walsh stated that production company Lionsgate is currently in final negotiations with actors who will complement the already impressive lineup, with all details being known by the end of October when, as announced, a much larger film crew will once again visit Dubrovnik.
“The budget for marketing and promotion of the film is very close to the amount of 100 million US dollars, and Dubrovnik will be the basis of the total global marketing campaign,” said Walsh.
So far, confirmed locations for filming “Robin Hood”, to embody the city of Nottingham, include part of Stradun, Sveti Dominik street, Gradski porat and the area under the bridge at Ploče. The set design will begin in December, and the filming will take place over three weeks in February and March 2017. The premiere of the film is planned for early 2018.
Several ‘Oscar winners’ are soon to be arriving in Dubrovnik, including Jamie Foxx and Taron Egerton.
