Advent in Split officially kicked off this weekend.
While this year’s event is much different (and smaller) than the Advent celebrations of the past, the people of Split were full of holiday cheer as they welcomed the opening of the festive celebration last night.
Though there are fewer houses along the Riva and the popular locations of Prokurative and Marmontova not in this year’s plan, Split citizens and visitors enjoyed this year’s new sites including Dardin and King Tomislav Street, and the never disappointing fan-favorite Pjaca.
The first candle on the Advent wreath around the fountain in front Sv. Frane was lit by vicar general Miroslav Vidović, mayor of Split Andrew Krstulovic Opara and his family, and Alijana Vukšić, director of the Split Tourist Board, precisely at 18:00.
From there, Goran Karan opened last night’s festivities with songs of Split’s soul, while HDD Trio followed to pick up the party with Christmas hits. From mulled-wine to the smell of sausages in the air, the city of Split delighted in the most wonderful time of the year.
