Keep an eye for this extraordinarily tallented saxophone quartet
Luka Norac (16), Ivor Zlodre (15), Mislav Lasić (15) and Matija Petrić (15). Do not forget those names, because given how hard-working and talented they are, you will certainly hear about them in the future. They are members of a Split saxophone quartet which on January 2, 2016, and throughout this holiday season, has attracted attention of numerous passers-by in the Marmontova Street who have been listening with great interest to their music.
Luka is the oldest and the most experienced of the group. He is a junior in regular high school and a senior at the Josip Hatze School of Music. He has been playing saxophone for more than 10 years. “Oh, I play it all my life. My uncle played saxophone and that was the reason why I became interested in this magical instrument. I love jazz music, and there is a lot of saxophone in jazz, so I fell in love with the instrument”, Luka said.
Even though he is only 16, he already knows that playing saxophone will be his life’s calling. “I have decided to devote myself to saxophone. After I finish high school, I will go to the Academy of Music. Saxophone is my life. I have been a member of this quartet for the last three years, while Ivor, Mislav and Matija joined me this year. Before them, we had some other players in the quartet, but they have graduated from the high school and moved on with their lives”, Luka added.
Even though they are still very young and only at the beginning of their music careers, they are able to find some paying gigs. “We have played for the Split Lions Club, and people invite us occasionally to play at some events, for example at graduation ceremonies and the like. If you are good at what you do, you will always find a job”, Luka said.
Ivor, Mislav and Matija have played saxophone for seven years and are “in love” with the wonderful sound of the instrument. Who knows, maybe one day they will become as famous as Luka Šulić and Stjepan Hauser, who gained worldwide fame as “2CELLOS”. If nothing else, Luka, Ivor, Mislav and Matija have the right to dream.
