The final decision on Agrokor will also allow Mercator to put all of its force and energy into reducing its indebtedness.

As Poslovni Dnevnik writes on the 18th of April, 2018, all five political factors responsible for the economy in the countries of the region came together as a united front and agreed to take action in the right direction for Agrokor.

Slovenian Economy Minister Zdravko Počivalšek told Poslovni Dnevnik that after his meeting in Bled, Slovenia, that the right direction had been taken, and also claimed that everyone has the same interests, which means securing the status of all of Agrokor’s companies within the region to “consolidate and operate successfully and successfully”.

“Our common attitude towards Agrokor is a unique case, and therefore I conclude that if they listened more to us, then relations in the region would be better,” Počivalšek added.

The purpose of the meeting was to get together to talk and inform each other of their stances on the situation withing the still burdened Agrokor. According to Počivalšek, after the Deputy Prime Minister of the Government of the Republic of Croatia, Martina Dalić, presented the current situation to them, which was a plan for signing a settlement in early July with the image of the new ownership structure, everyone expressed their support with hopes that the plan will be resolved by mid September.

“Mercator will remain within Agrokor, which will have a completely different ownership structure, but the final decision on Agrokor will also enable Mercator, which is of strategic interest to Slovenia, and its management, to put all of its forces into a business model, and reduce debt and logistical problems,” stated Počivalšek.

According to him, when Lex Agrokor was adopted, the Slovenian government supported it essentially on a principle level, with the hope and conviction that it would prevent the export of the messy crisis into the region.

For consultant Drago Munjiz, there is no more logical thing than for Mercator and Konzum remain united in the JI Europe area and even spread outside the region.

If there are new owners of the financial institution, dissemination is also an option, claimed the former Konzum director.
