Brlog: First Women-Run Cooperative Craft Brewery on Croatian Coast On Course

Total Croatia News

An inspiring story on the eve of International Woman’s Day from two beer-loving ladies in Croatia, who are making dreams happen.

Zadar, 07. March 2016. Ana Teskera and Maja Šepetavec from Zadar, Croatia (EU) started a crowdfunding campaign to fund the first COOPERATIVE brewery in Croatia. Brlog’s first goal was to collect $8.000 for start-up costs, which it reached in just four days. Brlog is continuing its campaign to reach the “stretch goal of $13.000”.

The brewery will produce craft beers that are unfiltered, unpasteurized and without preservatives, The production starts in May.

„We adore beer and we just want to brew. It is a pleasure to make a good beer that is affordable and makes Zadar more interesting. Unfortunately, women are not considered part of the brewingcommunity here and high quality beers are not easily available in this region. That is why we decided to form a cooperative to gather likeminded people together interested in making Brlog a success. Each and every one of our 11 members contributes to the process with their individual skills and knowledge, but the two of us will produce and distribute beer. This project was our way to start something with real impact in our society, but we had very little resources to work with. With only the skills to make beer and a small garage space, we were able to find 11 people willing to support us and pushing for our succees.

For the 13 members of the cooperative to go a step ahead and buy bigger scale brew-house and start independent brewery, they need a little extra help from outside their local community. They are offering many great rewards as part of their crowdfunding campaign. For people living in Croatia, they are offering beer of course; for non Croatia citizens there are also t-shirts, bottle openers, and the opportunity for a craft beer oriented summer vacation. You can support Brlog’s campaign here.

“We are a craft brewery startup. A social enterprise. And we need your support to launch our mission-driven business and take production out of our garage and to the next level.”

Cooperatives are one of the best way to start change. A woman-owned cooperative where women stand behind the product–What more to ask for?
