A large sum of money to change the face of the western part of Kraljevica.
As Morski writes on the 17th of March, 2018, the Minister of Maritime Affairs, Transport and Infrastructure, Oleg Butković, alongside the Director General of the Bakar-Kraljevica-Kostrena ŽLU, Dijana Mihaljević, jointly signed the Agreement for the works. Deputy Prefect Marin Medarić and Dijana Mihaljević also signed the Agreement on the co-financing of the construction of communal berths in the port of Carovo in Kraljevica.
Kraljevica Mayor Dalibor Čandrlić emphasised the fact that the project for the construction of communal berths/mooring in the port of Carovo, a project rightly deemed to be of strategic importance to the City of Kraljevica, will be realised in the coming period.
“Frankopan castle which is part of the Route of Frankopan is also close to Carovo port. With the realisation of this project by the end of 2019, the entire image of the western part of Kraljevica will be completely renewed and different,” stated Mayor Čandrlić.
Dijana Mihaljević expressed her pleasure at the idea of this strategically significant project coming to fruition in the port of Carovo, an area of importance to Kraljevica as a whole, which is currently in a somewhat poor condition.
Mihaljević explained that the project will make it so that Carovo will be able to accommodate up to 110 berths on each side.
She placed particular emphasis on the fact that the project has been adapted to accessibility needs, and therefore it will be possible for boats built with the necessary requirements in mind for persons with disabilities and reduced mobility to moor there. Mihaljević also said that all of the necessary project documentation for the eventual construction works to begin has now been fully prepared, and the launch of the public procurement procedure has been announced.
Deputy Prefect Medarić added that the decentralisation of maritime management was one of the best decisions taken at the end of the 1990s, allowing for smoother proceedings in local and county affairs and projects such as this one.
“Increasing Port Authority revenues and cooperation with the Ministry of Maritime Affairs, Transport and Infrastructure, leads to major projects, and the port of Carovo is a major and significant project for the citizens of Kraljevica. This investment will hardly be economically justified, but it’s a significant project for all Kraljevica residents,” Medarić said.
The total value of the project amounts to 7,300,000.00 kuna. MMPI is co-financing the project during the year 2018 with the amount of 3,000,000.00 kuna, for this year, the County provided funds in the amount of 560,000.00 kuna for the construction of the aforementioned communal berths (500,000.00 kuna) and the design of the Port of Carovo (an additional 60,000.00 kuna). The City of Kraljevica added 250,000.00 kuna.
The current plans involve numerous factors, including gangways, totalling a length of 282 metres, with a surface area of 1,102.10 metres.
This county port administration (Bakar-Kraljevica-Kostrena) is a county port authority which effectively manages eleven ports which are open to public transport, with a total of 900 berths, out of which, 857 are communal and 43 nautical, according to the Ministry of Maritime Affairs.
