As published by Poslovni.hr on December 30,2015, Dubrovnik Airport is seeking contractors for renovation and expansion of the airport, the project in which it is planning to invest a total of 1.84 billion kuna. Currently, there are a dozen open public competitions for contractors who will work on major construction activities, and just yesterday the deadline has passed for submission of bids for the most valuable and the most demanding part of the project, which is the construction of the runway and accompanying facilities, with the estimated value of 794.3 million kuna.
There is no official information about how many offers have arrived, but the candidates must meet the condition that their annual turnover is at least twice the estimated value of the project. Due to the complexity of the project and the need to continue with the aircraft operations during construction works, this part of the project will last the longest and should be finished by April 2019.
One of the companies which successfully cooperates with the Airport is KFK Tehnika from Dugo Selo, which just signed a contract for additional works on the construction of a new building, worth 8.4 million kuna. The visual passenger information system, worth 1.8 million kuna, has been commissioned from the Zagreb-based Sedam IT. The reconstruction of the terminal building has been estimated at nearly 31 million kuna and should be completed by 30 September next year.
Since the planned interventions on three airport buildings are very complex, this entails a number of other changes, including the system of movement of passengers, relocation of information boards and the changes to the system of luggage transport. Just the purchase of an automated system for receiving, security screening and dispatching the luggage will cost 60 million kuna, and it should be put in operation by December next year.
Most of the current tenders will be opened until the end of January. Once the whole reconstruction project is completed, Dubrovnik should finally get an airport suitable for the best known tourist destination in Croatia.
