Radiochirurgia Zagreb has received a licence from the Health Ministry.

Radiochirurgia Zagreb, the most modern clinic for diagnosis and treatment of cancer with radiotherapy, radiosurgery and chemotherapy in Southeast Europe, has received a license from the Ministry of Health and will receive its first patients on 27 December in Sveta Nedjelja near Zagreb, announced the clinic on Monday.

The clinic recently received a modern device for the treatment of cancer with radiosurgery – Varian EDGE, the first of its kind in this part of Europe. “We are delighted that, after four years of working on this project, we will finally begin to receive patients. We will offer them the most advanced devices and methods for early detection and treatment of cancer”, said director of Radiochirurgia Zagreb Dragan Schwarz.

Radiochirurgia Zagreb is first in Croatia and this part of Europe which offers a special screening – an exam that allows for early detection of lung cancer through superior CT devices with minimal radiation doses. The clinic offers other examinations for early detection of cancer, such as breast magnetic resonance imaging and virtual colonoscopy.

Also, according to the clinic, it will offer its services at the state and private health insurance markets in the entire area of Southeast Europe. “We believe that we will provide our services to a large number of patients, both as part of private health insurance and through the Croatian Institute for Health Insurance, because in Croatia every year there are about 25,000 new cancer patients, and early detection greatly increases chances for curing or extending the quality of life despite the diagnosis. Thanks to sub-millimetre precision of the Varian EDGE technology, we will make possible treatment of cases which classical methods cannot cure”, said Schwarz.

Radiosurgery uses a beam of highly precise and dosed radiation which destroys cancer without cutting and without blood, with minimal damage to surrounding tissue. The treatment does not last long and the patient can immediately go home.

The clinic also offers various Siemens equipment – a CT device with ultra-low doses of radiation, an 3T MRI device and a latest generation ultrasound device.

The total value of the investment in the clinic exceeds 10 million euros and has been financed from private sources, as well as with the help of the Croatian Bank for Reconstruction and Development and a guarantee provided by HAMAG Bicro agency.
