Outgoing Croatian Government Announces New Potential Investment Projects

Total Croatia News

With elections looming, plenty of investment opportunities in Croatia.

On the eve of the parliamentary elections, the outgoing government is trying to bring to Croatia several important investors which would start production activities in the country, create new jobs and strengthen exports, reports Jutarnji List on October 27, 2015.

According to unofficial information coming from the government circles, several ministers have recently talked with potential foreign investors from a number of strategically important industries. The investors are from the automotive, IT and electrical engineering industries. None of the sources wanted to reveal which investors the government is talking with, with justification that at this stage the investors themselves demand absolute secrecy, but unofficial information suggests that these companies consider Croatia to be a potential perfect location for their production facilities to be located.

“There is considerable interest of companies from the IT industry, which would here produce components which could then be built into the final products being assembled elsewhere. Lately, there have been discussions with companies which could produce circuit boards in Croatia”, revealed a source from government circles.

The talks are taking place with a few other big companies from the automotive sector. Automotive parts which are then being used for the production of cars abroad are already being produced in Croatia, but the government would like to see that in Croatia, following the example of Slovakia, final automotive products are being assembled as well.

“I think this is not too distant future. A few years after joining the EU, Slovakia has become one of the largest car manufacturers in Europe, although earlier it had not had such an industry. I believe that in the not too distant future the final products, cars, will be produced in Croatia as well”, a government source said.

Ivan Vrdoljak, minister of economy, said recently that further development of the automotive industry in Croatia should be helped by the development of clusters, including the one that brings together manufacturers from the automotive industry. However, it should be pointed out that in pursuit of investors Croatia is facing a very tough competition. It is well-known that other countries in the region are already giving large incentives to interested potential investors.
