The luxury Costabella resort in Rijeka is entering its second phase of construction.
Rijeka’s upcoming luxury Costabella resort is worth a massive 60 million euro, and after some rough field work, the resort’s construction is now moving on to its second phase, involving the construction of hotels, villas and roads, as well as numerous installations, as was announced on Friday to journalists and representitives of the City of Rijeka, by the representatives of its investors, the Czech group, JTH.
As Poslovni Dnevnik writes on the 2nd of June, 2018, in the first phase of construction, numerous works were carried out on the existing infrastructure and buildings, as well as rough terrain works, which included the removal of 8,213 metres of spatial materials. Suitable limestone, more than 52,000 cubic metres of it, to be more precise, was sorted and deposited into the sea and will be used as construction material for the beach construction. These works were carried out by GP Krk, and supervised by IGH.
Works during the second phase will be carried out by GP Krk and Kamgrad, with an eleven month deadline hanging over their heads.
The financing of the project was secured by the credit of the Croatian and Czech J&T banks, and negotiations are ongoing with the future (very well known) hotel operator, Hard Rock International.
There will be as many as 198 rooms in the resort, of which 131 will be located within the hotel itself, alongside 67 of them in the villas. The resort will also boast meeting facilities, a fitness centre, a kids club, swimming pools and other facilities, as well as several restaurants and bars. It is expected that Rijeka’s much anticipated new four-star hotel will reach completion by early 2020, and the plans are to employ 180 people throughout the year.
JTH Costabella’s company director Borjan Brnčić said that after the first phase, works on the second phase will begin next week. After that, the hotels and villas will be equipped, and the construction of the beach is set to begin after the tourist season, during autumn.
He pointed out that the hotel will boast six floors with accommodation units, a wellness area of nearly 6,000 square metres, and smaller pools and playgrounds will be located on the hotel’s pebble beach.
When asked about the collapse and the alleged devastation of the coastal belt, Brnčić said that he’d heard about it in the media. The construction site has also been paid a visit by an environmental inspection, all the works are carried out in accordance with the issued permits, and the concession has been paid for the third year, he stressed.
JTH’s owner, Jaroslav Tresnak, thanked the city administration of Rijeka for its continued good cooperation, and emphasised his satisfaction with the work as well as with the speed of the issuing of all the permits so far.
Mayor of Rijeka, Vojko Obersnel, pointed out that a year ago, many built and created the preconditions for building a hotel.
”Rijeka will get a nice hotel with a significant number of new facilities and a new beautifully landscaped beach,” he said, pointing out that everything is being done in line with all the necessary and obtained permits, including those that involve working in the sea.
Rijeka’s longtime mayor Vojko Obersnel also noted that the investor was required to keep the promenade by the sea uninterrupted so that citizens could continue to use it even after construction.
”Increasing the accommodation capacity for Rijeka is extremely important and we’re looking forward to this project being ready by the beginning of 2020, so those who come to Rijeka on the occasion of the European Capital of Culture will be able to stay in new facilities,” Obersnel concluded.
