British are the biggest spenders on Croatian Adriatic coast.
Consumption of food and beverage increases 2.4 times during the tourist season, show the figures from the Croatian Chamber of Economy (HGK). HGK has published an analysis „Assessment of the Increase in the Number of Consumers and the Potential for Consumption of Food and Beverage during Tourist Season”. They included all of the data for 2015, when the income from tourism amounted to 7.96 billion euros, reports Večernji List on August 8, 2016.
HGK used the numbers provided by the Institute for Tourism, and it found out that a tourist on vacation in Croatia spends on average about 66.4 euros a day, of which 18 percent or 12.2 euros is spent for food and drinks outside of the accommodation facilities.
Rovinj in Istria stands out as the strongest destination for foreign tourist arrivals. In this pretty, vibrant little town, according to the analysis, the population rose threefold in August 2015 (by 222.7 percent) as a result of the number of arrivals and overnight stays of foreign tourists.
If we take into account that the purchasing power (and therefore the consumption) by foreign tourists in the food and drinks segment is around 2.4 times higher than the consumption by the local population, this threefold increase is actually equal to seven times (630.6 percent) higher consumption compared to the consumption by local residents that was recorded outside of the tourist season.
All in all, according to the analysis by the Croatian Chamber of Economy, an increase in the number of foreign tourists by one in August, not only in Rovinj but also in the other parts of the Adriatic, will bring an increase equal to 2.4 consumers in the food and beverage segment. When it comes to specific numbers by country, Austrians spend 72 euros per day, French 95 euros, Russians 99 euros, while the British are the biggest spenders, with 122 euros of spending per day.
