December the 6th, 2024 – The much loved Camino route has captured hearts worldwide, and Camino Croatia (Camino Hrvatska) hopes to do the same in this country. Camino Croatia is now set to include the wider Zadar region.
As Morski writes, Zadar County Prefect Božidar Longin is set to present a partnership agreement to the Croatian Brotherhood of Saint James for the Camino Zadar project this morning. In addition to the partnership agreement in itself, a financial support agreement will also be signed for the project.
Eight different tourist boards are set to participate in the expansion of Camino Croatia into the Zadar region. These are the Zadar County Tourist Board and the tourist boards of Zadar, Nin, Starigrad, Pakoštane, Sukošan, Sv. Filip i Jakov and Vrsi, according to a report from local portal Zadarski.hr.
The entire Camino Croatia route boasts an impressive twenty stages and stretches over 3,000 kilometres. Currently, over ten routes marked with signposts and with pilgrim infrastructure are active. Others remain under development, including the Camino Croatia route through Zadar County to which the aforementioned partnership agreement pertains. The plans and proper routing of that section should begin very soon.
When the Camino Croatia project was publicised, it was reported that a then new route on the island of Brač was set to connect the sacred, cultural and natural landmarks of this unique island. This central Dalmatian island’s route stretches for 140 kilometres in total, and involves walking 20 kilometres daily.
By connecting sacred, cultural and natural landmarks of this country, Camino Croatia offered tourists and locals alike the opportunity to experience the largest Dalmatian island in a unique way. Walking the Camino has become a popular activity that combines travel and spirituality, allowing walkers to discover the beauty and cultural heritage of Croatia.
