April the 16th, 2025 – The fascinating Croatian real-time climate pavilion has delighted the crowds at the EXPO 2025 held in Japan.

We previously wrote about the Croatian real-time climate pavilion intended for show at the Japanese EXPO 2025. What Croatia took to the fair had actually never been done before, All visitors to the Croatian pavilion have had the opportunity to view a live broadcast of the air temperature present at that exact moment in around 50 locations across the whole of Croatia.

The Croatian real-time climate pavilion was designed by a team consisting of Lana Grahek, Maroje Mrduljaš, Antonio Patljak, Korina Vuković and Pero Vuković. The idea behind it was that instead of discussing climate as an abstract concept, visitors could be offered a direct physical experience through a heating and cooling system of pipes.

The Croatian real-time climate pavilion constantly changed and each visit offered a new experience. Each of the climate zones was filmed with thermal cameras to record the interactions of visitors and the micro-climates. Selected locations around the meteorological stations were also filmed with thermal cameras and these video transmissions were matched with the calculated time difference between Croatia and Japan.

As Poslovni Dnevnik/Marija Brnic writes, Rimac’s Nevera was what Croatia represented itself with the previous EXPO 2021 in Dubai. Croatia’s appearance at this year’s World Expo in Osaka, Japan, attracted a large number of visitors on the very first day. The theme of EXPO 2025 has been “Shaping a Future Society for Our Lives”, and the Croatian real-time climate pavilion firmly stood out among the other 80. Otherwise, 158 countries have been presenting their innovative exhibitions.

The grand opening was held on Saturday, and the doors were opened to visitors on Sunday. On the first day, the Croatian representatives were surprised by the sheer level of interest in their pavilion. They stated that people have been literally standing in columns and in front of other pavilions patiently waiting in line to view the previously described project, which in Croatia has been called “Klimaraznolikost/Climate Diversity”.

Visitors have been standing and waiting for quite a long time to see and experience the Croatian pavilion, and as a rule, they enter in groups of six and stay for about 3 minutes. It depends on how many thermal photographs they choose to download. Interest in the EXPO is very high, and expectations are that it will attract more than 28 million visitors by October the 18th.
