Some changes at the Institute of Immunology.

On Thursday, the government has adopted a decision which transforms Institute of Immunology into a public institution which is of strategic and general economic interest for the Republic of Croatia, due to the production of vaccines and blood products from human plasma which is of strategic importance for the Croatian health system and the health of general population, reports Jutarnji List on August 20, 2015.

“Institute of Immunology will be a universal legal successor of the existing company and will take over its assets, rights and obligations and its employees”, said health minister Siniša Varga. He added that it is difficult to estimate when the whole process will be finished, but hopes that this will be as soon as possible. The workers will receive their salaries as soon as the Institute comes under the ‘jurisdiction’ of the Ministry of Health. He also said that the funds for Institute of Immunology have been reserved in the amount of around 20 million kuna per year.

Deputy Prime Minister Branko Grčić told reporters that the Ministry of Health is working on securing the funds for salaries. “It is very important because we do not want for the bankruptcy proceedings to begin because of the non-payment of salaries, since that would significantly complicate and prolong the transformation of the institution”, said Grčić.

The director of the Institute will be selected and appointed by the Managing Council with the consent of the minister of health. The decision on transformation was made after the failed privatization during which the government at the beginning of July rejected the offer of the company Visia Croatica to buy the government’s share of the Institute of Immunology.
