January the 14th, 2025 – Following loud voices from Supetar on the island of Brač, new Jadrolinija lines will operate along the Supetar-Split route.

As Morski writes, the protests of the islanders on Brač seems to have finally borne fruit. New Jadrolinija lines will begin operating on the Supetar-Split route soon. In addition to that, the current agreement is that a third ferry will also soon set sail along the most frequent maritime route in Dalmatia.

Owing to these very welcome changes, there should be no more cases of Brač residents being late to work, or island children arriving late to school, as reported by Danas/Today.hr.

Anger arose among the islanders because their ferries are allegedly constantly late. Owing to that, the people of Brač appealed for the introduction of a new ferry line last month. The lack of connection meant arriving on the island every day in winter later than planned, which posed a very irritating issue for those with permanent employment on the mainland in Split.

As things currently stand, the Jadrolinija lines for Split-Supetar has ten departures in each direction on weekdays. That sounds half decent, but this busy route is operated by only two ferries. That’s because part of the fleet is undergoing regular annual repairs, so there’s simply been no third one.

“The result of inadequate decisions and poor management is the fact that there are no ferries sailing on this line. We’re reaching a situation where, although there is a sailing schedule, it simply cannot be respected,” said the mayor of Supetar, Ivana Marković.

After the outcry of dissatisfaction from people on Croatia’s “tallest island”, the Coastal Line Maritime Transport Agency reacted. By the end of January 2025, Jadrolinija Supetar-Split line ferries, which were often late, will sail 15 minutes later instead of at 16:30.

“If necessary, the sailing schedule will continue to be maintained with a departure at 14:45, while Jadrolinija will introduce a third ship to operate on Supetar-Split route within a few days. That new vessel will relieve the pressure from the normal sailing schedule,” said the director of the Coastal Line Maritime Transport Agency, Paola Vidović, for RTL.

It seems that the Sveti Duje vessel, which was recently purchased with the intention of maintaining the Supetar-Split line, won’t be the ship being used. It hasn’t received the necessary certificates and therefore can’t in good faith be used to maintain the most frequent Dalmatian line. One week ago, the residents of the islands in Zadar County, where Sveti Duje currently sails, also rebelled, dissatisfied with the capacity of that same ferry,” revealed RTL reporter Rade Županović.
