A nice wine event for the late summer days in Zagreb.
WOW (Women on Wine), an active and attractive wine association, given that only women are its members, decided to mark the end of the 2018 summer season on Thursday, September 13, by organising a get-together, in cooperation with the charming 3-wheel Bubbly Bar owned by Tamara Domljanović, on the shaded terrace of Pop Up Summer Garden. The event held at Tuškanac in Zagreb closed down the successful summer bar for the season, but it also served as an excellent presentation of the Jakob winery.
The owner of the Jakob winery is Ilija Zdravko Jakobović. It is a small picturesque family winery near Zagreb, located on the slopes of Medvednica, at a height of about 300 metres. Over time, thanks to its exquisite red “garage” wines, the Jakob winery has become a well-known venue for wine fans, while having its wines on a wine list has become a proof of the high level of service in restaurants. The Jakobović family vineyards are located above Brodski Stupnik, at a location which is rightfully considered to be one the most prestigious locations among the Slavonian vineyards.
The Jakob winery has confirmed its quality with a string of exceptional red wines which have won many prestigious awards. Jakob Cuvée 2009 won a gold medal in Bergamo in Italy in 2012, and it also received the 2015 Decanter recommendation for the same vintage.
The presentation at Pop Up Summer Garden was organized by WOW, headed by the association’s art director Vlasta Pirnat, and with the help of Bubbly Bar, owned by association member Tamara Domljanović. It was hosted by the winery’s enologist Ivona Jeličić.
The party started with a welcome drink, a glass of sparkling wine, of course. It was a relatively new sparkling wine – the Pave rose, produced by the charmat method. As humorously explained by Mr. Jakobović’s daughter Tina, given that they had been producing “only serious, carefully groomed red wines,” some time ago they decided to bring some casualness and bubbles into their offer. That is how Pave came about (50 percent Chardonnay and 50 percent Syrah and Merlot).
After enjoying the initial get-together with bubbles and chat, the Wow & Bubbly Bar & Pop Up Summer Garden presentation continued with the tasting of two serious wines: Jakob Syrah 2013 and Jakob Cuvee 2013, both champion wines. All in all, the Jakob wines proved to be a winning combination together with Bubbly Bar because, apart from the members of the WOW association, they attracted a lot of interest from other guests who also enjoyed, in addition to the wines, the perfect late-summer weather.
The beautiful terrace of Pop Up Summer Garden was filled with the sounds of DJ Rea & DJ Ineskich, as well as with delighted guests and friends who kept talking about wines until late at night.
The WOW association welcomes the work of Tina-Valentina Jakob and Ivona the enologist. Women are taking the reins in their own hands!
We look forward to tasting the wines from the potent and promising (especially for cuvée) vintage 2012, and Mr. Jakobović also praises the 2015 vintage. We can hardly wait to taste them!
