App Helps Residents Report Communal Infrastructure Problems

The e-intervention system enables towns and counties to make road and local infrastructure maintenance faster and cheaper.

Several towns in Croatia have expanded their operations with an information system developed by Promet I Prostor, an IT company from Zagreb. The company is focused on the development and implementation of modern software solutions based on GIS technology (Geographic Information System). The most important feature of their products is the ability to manage spatial data, with a view to achieving a high level of strategic management of towns, municipalities and businesses, reports Poslovni.hr on October 30, 2017.

One of their solutions which simplifies operational processes is the e-intervention municipal system. They came up with the idea after realising that, for example, road maintenance data was stored in a large number of paper files, which are later very difficult to manage. The system is primarily intended for town and county services which have the management and maintenance of roads and public infrastructure within their jurisdiction.

Citizens can use the Popravimo.hr app to report a problem which they have noted in their local communities and the responsible local service will immediately go out to the field and fix it. In the towns which still do not use this app, issues are reported by employees in the municipal communal departments or by the monitoring services of county road authorities. This system’s primary advantage is the ability to send feedback that the problem has been resolved, with every activity being spatially, temporally and categorically recorded in the system.

According to the company, the e-intervention system saves time and money to towns and counties. Specifically, thanks to better cost control capabilities for each individual intervention, many costs are eliminated. So far, the system, for which a complete installation takes about two weeks, is already used by six towns in Croatia – Karlovac, Jastrebarsko, Velika Gorica, Popovača, Ogulin and Šibenik, as well as the local heating company in Karlovac. Thanks to the implementation of this solution, Jastrebarsko was in 2015 named the best in the Smart Management category of the “Smart Cities – Cities of the Future” project.

“In a period of less than two years, they have automated all maintenance processes, which was helped by the fact that it is a relatively small town which has a fast and efficient local administration that quickly accepted the system and started using it,” explained the company.
