The app is an ally when bad things happen.

Business colleagues Danko Crnčević and Marin Škufca created the “What If” app which is a somewhat bizarre ally to users in case of death. The application functions as a virtual safe deposit for the most important, the most sensitive information that are important to our loved ones, who receive them by e-mail in case something happens to us, reports Poslovni.hr on April 2, 2017.

“The idea was born during a trip four years ago, when I had a turbulent flight. I started wondering what would happen if the plane were to crash, and how my wife would probably be lost due to a large number of important things that I was doing on my own. We started from ourselves and our pace of life. There is simply very little time to share relevant information with people close to us. The information may be bank accounts, borrowed money, investments, but also some personal messages, photos,” explained Marin Škufca.

They sought assistance from a team which is their IT support at their regular jobs and started the implementation of the project. The app has currently been developed only for Apple, but an Android version is expected by the end of the year. In the design process, they focused on simplicity – just information and persons to receive them in case of death. Any information can be assigned to one or more persons, and each has a primary and an alternative e-mail address.

“We also have ‘vault settings’ where you can set the period during which the user must log in to confirm to the app that they are all right. If the user forgets to login in, the app sends a reminder after a certain period of time. If the user does not log in within a specified time frame, the app automatically sends messages to designated e-mail addresses,” said Škufca.

He explains that their goal is to make it possible to users to use the app to demonstrate that they care for their loved ones, spouses, children, parents, friends, even after death. The advantage is that it can be done very easily and securely, at any time of day, from anywhere and very inexpensively.

Although they are pioneers in this market and the idea is quite unusual, they are sure that there are a number of people that would be interested in their idea. “We want to have a long-lasting product to the satisfaction of our customers. He are monitoring the number of downloads and from which parts of the world and countries are our new users coming. For now, we do not have many users, but we are proud of the fact that the app has been accepted by users from around the world,” concluded Škufca.
