Medvedgrad Brewery Raising a Million Euros from Investors

The craft beer industry in Croatia will double by 2022.

In the next five years, in addition to industrial beers, the bottled craft beers should become a standard feature in supermarkets and cafes in Croatia, at least according to the plans presented by the Medvedgrad brewery from Zagreb, the leading player in the Croatian craft beer industry sector, reports Poslovni.hr on December 6, 2017.

To achieve this, this largest Croatian craft beer producer launched on Tuesday the largest crowd investing campaign in Croatia through the Funderbeam SEE investment platform. For one million euros, the brewery offers potential investors a 15 percent stake in production.

Ivan Nauković, one of the four sons of Ivo Nauković, who founded the brewery, and its marketing manager, said that they had formally separated the production part of the business from the catering services in their beerhouses, formed a separate company and opened up to outside investors.

“We already sell 76 percent of the craft beer we produce outside of our beerhouses, which demonstrates the strength of our production and the brand, and we estimate that by 2022 the Croatian market of craft beer, where we currently have a 30 percent stake, will double to 100 million kunas. We want to take advantage of this opportunity,” said Nauković.

Medvedgrad will exceed its initial plans this year and produce 1.8 million bottles of 22 different kinds of beer. The targeted revenue for this year is 17 million kunas, while net profit target is not known.

According to data on the company provided by the Financial Agency (FINA), in 2016 the revenues stood at 14.5 million kunas, while the net profits reached 515,300 kunas. Ratko Bajakić, the leading investor in the Medvedgrad brewery, said that, if they raise the maximum amount of a million euros, investors will receive 25 percent of the company’s profits. If the final amount is smaller, they will receive a dividend of six percent starting from next year. A year later it will be eight percent, and then 10 and 11.5. Starting from the fifth year of investment, the dividend will be 13 percent.
