As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, the Mayor of the City of Zagreb, Tomislav Tomašević, and Deputy Mayors Danijela Dolenec and Luka Korlaet presented one of the new Zagreb trams today. The vehicle is the first of 40 new Zagreb trams ordered by the Croatian capital city after fifteen years. They’re Croatian made, having been manufactured by the company Končar-električna vozila d.d.

The City of Zagreb’s administration stated that before the new Zagreb trams can be put into service, tests and trials will be conducted in real conditions on the streets of the city. It’s expected that this particular tram could be in service in the second half of February.

The 20.8-metre-long tram, with a capacity of 115 passengers, is fully adapted for people with disabilities, boasts video surveillance, USB ports and a passenger counting system. It’s service life is 35 years. Another novelty is its innovative technology that reduces electricity consumption by returning braking energy to the network.

The value of the contract for these new vehicles amounts to 47.2 million euros including VAT, and the new vehicle is fully financed within the framework of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan, according to the City of Zagreb.

“We’re continuously working on improving public transport. Following the expansion of the city’s tram network and the announcement of the procurement of 60 low-floor buses, new trams are another step towards better, higher-quality and safer mobility across Zagreb. Soon, the capital will be served exclusively by modern low-floor trams, which will put Zagreb on a par with other European metropolises,” concluded Mayor Tomislav Tomašević.
