Taste Wine with Eyes, and other pleasures…

Taste Wine with Eyes is a new exhibition by a young photographer Helena Pletković which was opened at the Erste Club café in Zagreb, organized by the G.E.T. Association for the Culture of the Table. The author presented photographs which focus on the visual identity of wines – labels and wine in a glass.

Many buyers choose wines by which label is more appealing to them. Unfortunately, very soon the label is confined to memory and we do not think much about it. Helena wanted to correct this injustice, since labels are sometimes true works of art, and to present them in a larger format, from a different, artistic angle, playing with lights and shadows, accompanied by the inevitable glass.

“My long-time friendship and cooperation with a young photographer Helena Pletković has always been connected with hedonism, and therefore most of her photographs cover such motifs. Food and wine are undoubtedly a big part of the hedonism story or, as we like to say, the culture of the table, and represent an inexhaustible source of inspiration. This very much suits Helena, who is still a young and somewhat playful person with a cheerful character, because everything around the table is full of colour and life. It is this feel for colour which is currently her greatest virtue, which is not surprising considering her age. She still approaches each photo with a smile”, said Tomislav Stiplošek, president of the G.E.T Association.

The exhibition has been supported by Đurđa Protić, owner of the Zvona Catering and the organizer of the Croatian Food and Wine Festival. “Through the festival I organize, I always support young people, especially through the auspices and sponsorship of the Young Chef Foundation, but also in other ways, including through support for this exhibition, because this is also a part of the eno-gastronomy and serves to raise awareness about the culture of the table”, said Protić.

Support was also given by Erste Bank, which offered its premises for the organization of the exhibition, emphasising that they are happy to support young talents and to see such a young person who works and wants to stay in Croatia, which is very important at the present time when so many young people are forced to look elsewhere for their business opportunities.

The official opening of the exhibition took place in a very pleasant atmosphere and with a lot of good vibrations and a selection of different wines and snacks. In addition to journalists, friends, winemakers and other guests, the opening was attended by a well-known Croatian photographer Damir Hoyka, who also helps young photographers through his project Fotosofia. Helena Pletković photographed the labels of wineries CUJ, Matošević, Medea, Tomaz and Trapan from Istria; wineries Bire, Jako Vino, Matuško and Božo Metković from Dalmatia; wineries Bodren and Bolfan Vinski Vrh from Dvanajščak-Kozol and Stručić from Zagorje-Međimurje sub-region; wineries Barundić, Ivančić – Griffin, Kolarić, Kurtalj and Šember from Plešivica; wineries Belje, Iločki Podurmi, Kolar from the Danube region; wineries PP Orahovica and Tandara from Slavonia; and winery Puhelek Purek from Prigorje.

The exhibition will be opened for the next month, and then it will tour Croatia, visiting Čakovec, Osijek, Split and Umag.

Wine and Food as Motifs
Helena Pletković was born on 4 February 1993. She fell in love with photography as a child. In addition to education and a lot of effort, her works have been especially influenced by mentors Branimir Butković, Amir Šepić and Marko Čolić. She is an active member of the G.E.T. Association, so most of her works are dedicated to wine and food, which resulted in the Taste Wine with Eyes exhibition dedicated to wine labels.
