Croatian President Begins Visit to Brazil

ZAGREB, March 20, 2018 – Croatian President Kolinda Grabar Kitarović held talks with the governor of Sao Paulo Geraldo Alckmin on Monday evening, at the beginning of her two-day working visit to Brazil, the Office of the Croatian President said in a press release.

During the meeting, Grabar-Kitarović said that Croatia-Brazil relations were good and that their cooperation should be steered toward the relevant direction.

The president said that Croatia, one of the European Union member-states, was supportive of the strengthening of the cooperation between the EU and Mercosur, a South American trade bloc and she underscored Brazil’s role of the leader in that bloc.

Concerning the bilateral economic cooperation, Grabar-Kitarović called for additional efforts in search of new business opportunities in Croatia and Brazil and in defining possibilities for joint ventures.

In this context, metal production, construction, shipbuilding, tourism and overseas shipping were described as sectors with potential for developing cooperation.

Grabar-Kitarović and her host praised the local Croat community as a bridge of cooperation between the two countries.

Brazil is the last stop of Grabar-Kitarović’s South American tour during which she visited Argentina and Chile.
