Dubrovnik to Mark 25th Anniversary of its Defence and Honour its Defenders

Lauren Simmonds

The 6th of December 1991 is a date which has burned itself into the eternal memory of the City of Dubrovnik and has become as much a part of its long history as Saint Blaise or Marin Drzic.

December 6, 2016 marks 25 years since the unjustifiable and criminal attack on Dubrovnik took place, an event which marked the beginning of a long and heart-wrenching fight for the invisible yet precious thing we all seek and we indeed all take for granted; Freedom.

Udruga Branitelja Dubrovnika (Association of Defenders of Dubrovnik) have organised a concert in honour of the defenders that risked and in many cases lost their lives to try to ensure the freedom they so bravely fought for as part of an official program to mark this infamous date. The concert will feature Klapa’s Subrenum and Ragusa, Ibrica Jusic, Valetudo, Banditen Strasse, Lapadske Tratincice, Lingua Franca, Art, Amadeus, Taliri and Atlantida. It will also include a Braniteljski Band, a group composed of several different musicians who served during the war.

The concert will be held in front of the Church of St. Blaise in Dubrovnik’s Old City at 20:00.
