Former Croatian Prime Minister finally decides with whom she will fight the election.
Former Croatian prime minister Jadranka Kosor will be a candidate on a list of the National Party of Reformists led by Radimir Čačić. She will have the first position on the list in the sixth electoral constituency. The final agreement between the two experienced politicians, former president of HNS and former president of HDZ, was reached yesterday at the Westin Hotel in Zagreb. Kosor and Čačić have refused to officially confirm their future cooperation, but sources close to them claim the two have always worked well together and have had good personal relations, reports Jutarnji List on October 6, 2015.
“Ask Mrs. Kosor”, said Čačić yesterday. However, Jadranka Kosor did not want to give a comment. Kosor has lately been a quite popular potential partner for the forthcoming elections. Even prime minister Zoran Milanović praised her work for the first time last week. “I have got a lot more respect for the work of Jadranka Kosor today than when she was the prime minister three or four years ago, when we were political opponents. I think that with a certain time lag, the overall Croatian public respects here more than previously”, said Milanović when asked about speculation that the former prime minister might be SDP’s candidate for the parliament. Milanović replied that he often talked with Kosor, but that she had not been offered a place on the candidate list.
Even the interior minister Ranko Ostojić commented recently on Milanović’s statements about Kosor and her possible cooperation with SDP. “What she has experienced from her own party, including threats, has led to a situation that her safety is in question, only because she does not want to change her opinion. Therefore, it is understandable that we think highly of her, since politicians are entitled to have their own opinion”, said Ostojić.
HDZ president Tomislav Karamarko expelled Kosor from HDZ after she publicly criticized some decisions of the new leadership. He claimed that she was damaging the reputation of the party. Kosor has since survived on the political scene as an independent politician, although she lost parliamentary and intra-party elections.
She continues to criticize the new HDZ leadership and she regularly announces her political views on Twitter. It is interesting that until recently Jadranka Kosor has been denying the possibility of cooperating with Čačić. His Reformists have already entered into a coalition with the party of former Croatian president Ivo Josipović, and they are collectively known as Successful Croatia. Their goal is to attract various politicians who could appeal to independent-minded voters.
