Property tax put on hold indefinitely? For now…
As Poslovni Dnevnik reports on the 14th of September, 2017, it has been stated that the controversial property tax which has everyone talking is apparently a ”sort of simplification of communal fees and remittances which already exists, in a way that is fairer and more effective for the tax administration.”
At today’s session, the Government accepted amendments to the Local Tax Act, which repeals provisions regarding property taxes, the introduction of which was scheduled to begin next year.
The Prime Minister recently said that the Croatian public was not well acquainted or versed with all aspects of the unpopular threat of property tax and announced the postponement of its introduction “for the foreseeable future” in order to do all the necessary analysis.
Andrej Plenković noted that this tax was adopted by the Croatian Parliament at the end of last year under the Local Tax Act as part of a large tax reform package. He also pointed out that the tax is not the same type of property tax that exists in other European countries, but a sort of simplification that ”already exists”, in a way that is, as already mentioned, allegedly ”fairer and more effective for tax administration”.
