ZAGREB, April 19, 2018 – The president pf the Independent Democratic Serb Party (SDSS) Milorad Pupovac, who was a member of Croatia’s parliamentary delegation which abruptly ended their visit to Belgrade following an incident caused by convicted war criminal Vojislav Šešelj, said the incident harmed the visit, Croatia-Serbia relations and Serbia.

The Croatian delegation abruptly terminated the official visit to Serbia in the wake of the incident caused by Serbian Radical Party leader and MP in Serbia’s parliament Šešelj who trampled on the Croatian flag in Serbia’s parliament.

“We must keep a cool head and do everything to prevent ourselves from becoming the hostages to people who are stomping on national symbols of a country,” the leader of Croatian Serb said.

Asked if in his opinion Serbia should apologise, Pupovac said he did not understand why he was being asked this question which he found “tendentious.”

He declined to precisely say whether it was moral that Šešelj was a member of the national parliament given that he is a convicted war criminal, saying only that “the issue of war crimes is a serious problem between the two countries” and that he did not want this “to become a serious problem between the two parliaments.”
