The Croatian Prime Minister talks about taking in refugees.
Croatian prime minister Zoran Milanović said that it is acceptable that the European Commission should determine the quotas of refugees which each country should accept, but that it was not acceptable to build walls and fences in order to stop the immigrants in their quest for a better life, reports Index.hr on September 4, 2015.
“The European Commission in Brussels works with numbers about the admission of refugees, and it is not unacceptable to me that they should set quotas which individual countries should accept. We are ready to discuss it”, said the prime minister in Ludbreg answering a reporter’s question regarding the latest information that Croatia will have to accept about 3,200 refugees.
Speaking about refugees, Milanović said that they are people who are very motivated to come to work, create and be part of the community. He said he is aware that they are not interested in Croatia, but in Germany, Austria or Sweden, but that Croatia cannot hide and look away from reality.
As far as the statement of Hungarian prime minister Viktor Orban on the possible construction of the wall on the border between Croatia and Hungary is concerned, Milanović said that Orban has “a strange attitude”.
“Orban is talking about danger for the Christian values in Europe. Like hordes of Muslims who are less valuable are coming here. However, that is only 0.1 percent of the European population and these are people who are highly motivated to succeed and to live here. People die for a chance to succeed. I do not believe in border fences. These are not our enemies, and the wall will not help Hungary at all. People will go around it”, concluded Milanović.
