The Croatian Prime Minister on the forthcoming elections.

In an interview to Nova TV, prime minister Zoran Milanović discussed possible dates for the parliamentary elections and explained why should voters after four years again vote for his coalition, reports Vecernji List on August 27, 2015.

“I have heard about Šeks’s statement, that the president could call the elections herself, but the things are very clear”, said Milanović, adding that the citizens do not care very much whether the elections are held one month earlier or later.

He said that his coalition is ready for the elections and believes they the voters will again give them their confidence. “We have jumpstarted the economy, no one is above the law anymore, we have solved the problem of the loans in Swiss francs”, said Milanović when asked why he expected a new mandate. “Croatia is now a better organized country than four years ago and, I dare say, better organized than ever.”

Talking about loans in Swiss francs, he said: “We are a government that did not create the problem, but we have solved it step by step”, said the prime minister. Asked if he was aware that people will judge the government on the basis of inaction and slowness, Milanović repeated that his government has jumpstarted the economy. “The reform is when Croatian Railways or other state-owned companies reduce the number of employees, and that is something that we are reluctant to do. For the first time ever, in each sector we know which salary benefits people receive and on what basis. That is called control over spending, which we did not have before due of negligence. My government has introduced democratic order in the country.”

“Croatia is going forward with rising exports and industrial production. Today, it is a better organized country and with a better future than ever before”, he repeated. Asked about his cooperation with the president Grabar-Kitarović, he commented that ”the state is run by the government” and that certain matters have been discussed out of public sight.

When asked for which Zoran Milanović people will vote, the one from the beginning of the term who rarely appeared in public, or the one at the end of the term who is constantly among the people and makes selfies”, he replied: “I have made a selfie only once. For me, the citizens of Croatia are the most important ones. I do not do selfies, I have done my job wholeheartedly.”
