Prime Minister: Karamarko Has My Support

Prime Minister Tihomir Orešković still supports First Deputy Prime Minister Tomislav Karamarko.

The crisis in which the government has found itself after media reports revealed that First Deputy Prime Minister and HDZ president Tomislav Karamarko had business connections through his wife with Josip Petrović, former member of the INA Board of Directors and current MOL’s consultant, has reached its peak, reports Jutarnji List on May 27, 2016.

After yesterday’s announced by MOST leader and Deputy Prime Minister Božo Petrov that his ministers and MPs would vote against Karamarko when SDP’s motion of no confidence comes to a vote, today Prime Minister Tihomir Orešković gave his support to Karamarko.

“My position is that Karamarko has my support. We should allow institutions to do their job. We have not yet heard from the institutions, and Karamarko still has my support. Petrov has a right to his own position, but my one is different. Too much blood has been spilled for democracy and I think that decisions like these should not be made because it is not the right way. This situation is not good for anyone, and I hope that common sense will win”, said the Prime Minister.

“The interest of the citizens of this country is for this government to survive. I hope that we will find a solution and that reason will prevail, because the government is functioning and this would be a bad message to investors”, said Orešković. “I have not chosen a side, but principles. If it turns out that there was a conflict of interest, then we can talk,” concluded the Prime Minister.
