September the 11th, 2024 – The gorgeous Istrian city of Rovinj pulled in the most visitors from abroad, while timeless Crikvenica does the same with visitors from elsewhere in the country.
As Morski writes, in the absolutely scorching hot July this year, there were 4.4 million arrivals and 25.2 million overnight stays realised by tourists in commercial accommodation facilities. That represents a decrease of tourist arrivals by 2.0%, but an increase of their overnight stays by 0.5% compared to July 2023. This data comes directly from the National Bureau of Statistics (CBS).
Domestic tourists from all over the country realised 377,000 arrivals and 1.7 million overnight stays in various destinations. That represents an increase in arrivals by 7.2% and an increase in overnight stays by 8.0% compared to July 2023.
Foreign tourists achieved 4.0 million arrivals and 23.4 million overnight stays across Croatia, which is a 2.8% drop in arrivals compared to July 2023, while the number of overnight stays realised by this group remained at the same level.
The most overnight stays realised by foreign tourists rather unsurprisingly came from the ever faithful Germans, followed by overnight stays realised by tourists from neighbouring Slovenia and then by visitors from Poland.
As stated, in July 2024, tourists from Germany realised the most overnight stays of all foreign tourists – 4.6 million overnight stays (19.7% of the total overnight stays realised by all foreign tourists). That is 4.2% less overnight stays compared to July 2023.
The Germans are followed by overnight stays realised by other European tourists, more specifically from Slovenia (11.6%), Poland (8.8%), Austria and the Czech Republic (both 7.4%), Hungary and Slovakia (both 5.6%), the Netherlands (3.9%), the United Kingdom (3.2%) and Italy (3.1%).

Foreign tourists realised the most overnight stays in Rovinj in July 2024, with 946,000 overnight stays recorded, which is still 0.6% less than in July 2023. Domestic tourists on the other hand realised the most overnight stays in Crikvenica in July 2024, with that sum totalling 73,000.
