A couple of new additions to safety on the road are on their way.
As Poslovni Dnevnik reports on the 8th of July, 2017, by the end of this year, an additional twenty surveillance cameras will be set up in Primorje-Gorski Kotar County in undisclosed public locations, they will be accompanied by “smart traffic lights” that recognise the driver’s speed and in certain places even stop the traffic if the driver continues to drive at an undesired/unsafe speed.
The idea comes as a reaction of the Road Safety Council to the road safety report on that particular county over the past six months, which shows ten deaths and nearly eight per cent more accidents than took place during the same period last year. A worrying 1,392 traffic accidents have been recorded, of which 291 people have been injured, according to a report by Novi List.
Sadly, eight percent of traffic accidents were due to the influence of alcohol.
Around ninety percent of all road accidents are caused by driver errors, with speeding being the main cause of entirely preventable crashes, collisions and other car accidents. It is hoped that these two new additions to what appears to be a problematic area for traffic accidents will help to solve underlying issues and render the roads more safe.
